MV ABEGWEIT
Powerful icebreaker built to carry passengers, trains and automobiles between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, Canada.

MV Abegweit was a rail, vehicle and passenger icebreaker ferry that operated across the Abegweit Passage of the Northumberland Strait, connecting Borden-Carleton, Prince Edward Island with Cape Tormentine, New Brunswick. She was launched on February 20, 1982. She was 122 m (401 ft) long and displaced 12,000 tons. She could carry 974 passengers and 250 cars (or 40 trucks or 20 rail cars). On May 31, 1997, the Confederation Bridge opened and ferry service was closed. She was sold in January 2004 to a company called "Pelican Marine" in India. Her name was changed to MV Mariner under the registered owner of "Bridgend Shipping Ltd" in Kingstown, Saint Vincent. The ship sailed from Galveston in late February 2004, crossed the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Suez Canal, Red Sea and Indian Ocean, arriving in Alang, India in early May 2004. The Record of Lloyd's lists her as scrapped on May 9, 2004.
