Car Ferry PRINSES JOSEPHINE CHARLOTTE, Ostende, Belgium. Postcard

Car Ferry PRINSES JOSEPHINE CHARLOTTE
Ostende

Postcard published by Delacauw-Stellemans, Ostende, Nº 70.

The Prinses Josephine Charlotte ferry, 113.05 m long and 15.97 m beam, with capacity for 100 vehicles and 700 passengers, was built in 1949 at the Cockerill Hoboken shipyard in Antwerp. She sailed the Ostend - Dover route from 3 June 1949, to 29 June 1952. After being sold to a Greek shipping company, she returned to Ostend in 1969 to cover the route between that port and Harwich (England). In November 1970, she was incorporated into the Sealink consortium. She was withdrawn from service in 1974, and on 8 March 1976, she was sold to the Blanca Shipping Company of Panama, which changed its name to Leto. In 1977, it was acquired by the Greek shipping company G. Kausouniadis, which renamed it Athens Express, which used it for domestic voyages and for routes from Piraeus to Cyprus and Syria. After several accidents, it was scrapped in Eleusis Bay, Greece, in 1984.

ESZTERGOMI VÁRMÚZEUM. Esztergom, Hungary (1976)

ESZTERGOMI VÁRMÚZEUM
[Esztergom Castle Museum]
Esztergom

Ticket Nº A 182125.

(1976)

Várhegy (Castle Hill) and the Royal Castle of Esztergom have played an important role in the history of Hungarians since the 10th century, after Prince Géza (945-997) chose the hill above the Danube as his place of residence. King Béla (ca. 1020-1063) laid the foundations of the palace complex that is still known today, on the site of the previous castle, built by Stephen I (ca. 975-1038), the first king of Hungary, destroyed by a fire: walls from that time are still preserved. Thanks to the reconstruction works it was possible to save invaluable cultural value and present many historical spaces. For example, you can explore 2,000-year-old archaeological strata across a glass floor. The castle chapel, also known as the pearl of the palace, shows traces of the introduction of Gothic. The details of the fresco with lions emphasized the victorious power of the king, etc. The panorama from the White Tower is impressive.

Ferry "TRILLIUM", Ontario, Canada. Postage stamp (2023)

Ferry TRILLIUM
Toronto, Ontario

Stamp issued by Canadian post on 12.07.2023.

Trillium is a side wheeler ferry operated by the City of Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation. The ship was built in 1910 by Polson Iron Works and initially operated by the Toronto Ferry Company. She was launched on June 18, 1910, and entered service on July 1, 1910. Trillium was retired in 1957 and sold to the Toronto Works Department, which intended to use it to carry sewage sludge from the new Humber Sewage Treatment Plant. It was left to sink in a lagoon in the Toronto Islands, along with her sister vessel Bluebell. In the sixties, there was renewed interest in the Trillium. First, in 1964, it was proposed to display the Trillium along with other historic boats at the Toronto Maritime Museum but the proposal failed. In 1965, it was then proposed to return the boat to service. Metro Toronto approved her restoration in 1973. The ship returned to Toronto Harbour in November 1975. She was returned to service on July 1, 1976. In 2017, Trillium was refurbished.

Merci à Daniel.
