Compañía Transatlántica Española

Painting by M. Martí Barrionuevo.

Postcard published by Trajecte S.A., Nº 116 (1997).

This screw-propelled steamship, commissioned by the shipping company A. López & Co., was launched on 25 November 1865, at the Scottish shipyards of William Denny & Brothers in Dumbarton. The vessel entered service in 1866 under the name Antonio López, operating on the maritime mail route between Cádiz and Havana. Years later, upon being incorporated into the Compañía Trasatlántica, it was renamed Patricio de Satrústegui. In 1891, it was sold to the British firm G.C. Dobell & Co., renamed Curzon, and converted into a sailing vessel. In 1903, it passed into the hands of shipowners in Valparaíso, Chile, and served for nearly two decades transporting coastal cargo and timber. In 1920, it briefly returned to Spanish registry, operated by shipping companies based in Barcelona. Finally, in 1927, it was sold to Argentine buyers and subsequently scrapped in the waters of the Río de la Plata, near Buenos Aires.
