The Innsbruck Nordkette cablecars in Tyrol provide access to the Nordkette, the southernmost mountain range of the Karwendel. The route is divided into three sections, from the center of Innsbruck, through the Hungerburg district, to the Seegrube station (1,905 m above sea level) and finally to the Hafelekar mountain station (2,269 m above sea level). Section 1, from Innsbruck's Old Town to Hungerburg, is served by the Hungerburgbahn funicular, while sections 2 and 3, to the Seegrube and Hafelekar stations, respectively, are served by two cable cars with a total of three cabins. On 9 July 1928, the first section, 2,885 m long, from Hungerburg to Seegrube (1,905 m above sea level), was opened. On July 21 of the same year, the second, upper section, 752 m long, from Seegrube to Hafelekar, was opened. Two cabins operated in connecting service on the lower section, and one cabin on the upper section. The station buildings were designed by the architect Franz Baumann.
