La virgen roja ('The Red Virgin') is a 2024 Spanish-American historical and psychological drama directed by Paula Ortiz and written by Eduard Solà and Clara Roquet. It stars Najwa Nimri and Alba Planas as Aurora and Hildegart, respectively, alongside Aixa Villagrán, Patrick Criado, and Pepe Viyuela. It had its world premiere at the San Sebastián International Film Festival on 21 September 2024.

Synopsis

Hildegart is conceived and raised by her mother Aurora to be the woman of the future, becoming one of the most brilliant minds of 1930s Spain and one of the European references on female sexuality. At 18, Hildegart begins to experience freedom, and Aurora fears losing control over her daughter, until she ends up murdering her because she would derail her project.
