The Kukulcán Pyramid or Temple, also known as El Castillo, was built sometime between the 8th and 12th centuries AD by the pre-Columbian Mayan civilization. The building served as a temple to the Yucatec Maya deity Kukulcán (the Feathered Serpent) closely related to Quetzalcóatl, a deity known to the Aztecs and other central Mexican cultures of the Postclassic period.
