Atalante, originally named Tahitien, was built in Brest, France, in 1953 for the French Messageries Maritimes. She operated on the Marseille–French Polynesia route until 1972, when she became the property of Aphrodite Cruises (later renamed Mediterranean Sun Lines or Med Sun Lines), which fitted her out for low-cost Mediterranean cruising. She was refitted in 1978, and in 1991 was leased to Epirotiki Lines, which renamed her Homericus. Her name was reverted to Atalante in 1992 and she was laid up. She was later purchased by Paradise Cruises, which refitted her again in 1993. She was scrapped at Alang, India, in 2004.
