The Forum Kino was built between 1949 and 1950 by Robert Kotas, converting the structure of an old market that had existed since 1880. It was inaugurated on April 5, 1950 and existed until 1974, when it was demolished; in its place the Vienna City Data Center was built. It had 1,147 comfortable seats and good acoustics, and was equipped with the first air-conditioning system in Austrian movie theaters. The venue was also used for fashion shows, on stage in front of the screen, and for displays of the Austrian textile, shoe and leather goods industry in the showcases of the salons.
