The steamer Isla de Luzón was built in 1882 by Oswald Madaunt & Co. in Southampton (England) under the name Woolston. She caught fire and was abandoned at Messina (Sicily) on 29 February 1910. She was mixed cargo and passenger (she could accommodate 141 people plus crew). She was used by the Compañía General de Tabacos de Filipinas on the sea line between Barcelona and Manila through the Suez Canal. During the Spanish-Philippine War (1896-1898) she was incorporated by the Spanish navy under the command of Admiral Manuel de la Cámara y Livermoore.
