The Saint-Georges-de-Commiers – La Mure narrow gauge railway line opened on 24 July 1888 to serve the La Mure coalfield, and was electrified in 1906. It was in service until 12 May 1936. It had a length of 30 km, and had to overcome a difference in altitude of 600 m; To make it possible, six viaducts and eighteen tunnels had to be built. Between 1989 and 2010, a tourist line operated along its route.
