Francisco is a high-speed catamaran ferry built in 2012 by the Incat shipyard, in Tasmania (Australia). It was acquired by Buquebus to operate the international route that connects Buenos Aires with Montevideo, sailing through the Río de la Plata. It is probably the fastest high-speed ferry in the world, and the first to use liquefied natural gas as fuel. She was baptized in honor of the first Latin American pope, elected a few months before her commissioning. The ferry covers the Buenos Aires - Montevideo route twice a day in each direction. Travel time is 2 hours 30 minutes.
Buquebus is a river and land passenger transportation company that connects Uruguay and Argentina with its ferries crossing the Río de la Plata. It was founded in 1979 by the Argentine businessman Juan Carlos López Mena.
