The current building of the Tivoli Theatre in Barcelona, located on Casp street, was inaugurated on 20 May 1918. It was built according to a project by the architect Miquel Madorell i Rius (1869-1936). It has a capacity for 1,643 people. After the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) it was used as a cinema, until it was restored to its former status as a theatre on 22 December 1982. In 1989 the building was put up for sale and was on the verge of being turned into a leisure and commercial centre, but in 1991 it was finally restored as a theatre, alternating theatre performances with film sessions and all kinds of shows, such as classical and modern dance and music recitals, especially by singers and songwriters. It was sometimes the scene of political and trade union events.
