The National Museum of History of Mexico, located in the Chapultepec Castle, was founded in 1939 and inaugurated on 27 September 1944. It preserves archaeological, historical, artistic and heritage collections of the history of Mexico from the time of the Mexica to the Mexican Revolution. It has 12 permanent exhibition rooms and 22 rooms with historical recreations within the area known as Alcázar. It also has a research and curatorship department dedicated to the study of its own collections. It also has restoration and storage areas for its more than 60 thousand objects.
