FERRY "CIUDAD DE TARIFA" leaving the port of Algeciras (Andalucía), España. Postcard

FERRY CIUDAD DE TARIFA
saliendo del puerto de Algeciras [leaving the port of Algeciras]

The ferry Ciudad de Tarifa was built by the Unión Naval de Levante, in Valencia, for the Compañía Transmediterránea. She was launched on October 7, 1959 and delivered on April 12, 1961. She was assigned to cover the lines of the Strait of Gibraltar, especially between Algeciras and Tangiers, and occasionally made trips between the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. On March 9, 1984 she was sold to the Greek company Agapitos Brothers, from Piraeus, who renamed her Apollon, and in 1985 she was renamed Corfu Island. On May 20, 1986, while being repaired in Perama (Piraeus), due to an accident it sank and could not be refloated: it remained 32 years under the waters of the port of Perama, and was finally recovered on June 11 2018 to scrap it.

Postcard by A. Subirats Casanovas, Valencia, no. 9 (1963).
