The
Juan J. Sister ferry was built by Kværner Masa-Yards in Turku (Finland).
She was launched on November 24, 1992 and completed and delivered to the Transmediterránea
Company on May 12, 1993. She is 151.1 meters long, 26.0 wide and 6.0 draft.
Her capacity is 556 passengers, with 406 berths in 142 cabins, and the rest in
seats. She made her first trip with passengers between Cádiz and Santa Cruz de
Tenerife. Between October and November 1995 she underwent maintenance and some
modification work in Valencia and Barcelona. She has her base port in Las
Palmas de Gran Canaria. In addition to the maritime connections between the
Canary Islands and the Peninsula, she has covered, among others, the
Málaga-Melilla, Almería-Melilla, Barcelona-Mahón, Valencia-Palma de Mallorca
and Almería-Nador (Morocco) lines.
