Oceanliner "ATALANTE". Med Sun Lines, Piraeus, Greece. Advertising postcard

Oceanliner ATALANTE
Med Sun Lines

5 Sachtouri Str.
Piraeus

Advertising postcard.

Atalante, originally named Tahitien, was built in Brest, France, in 1953 for the French Messageries Maritimes. She operated on the Marseille–French Polynesia route until 1972, when she became the property of Aphrodite Cruises (later renamed Mediterranean Sun Lines or Med Sun Lines), which fitted her out for low-cost Mediterranean cruising. She was refitted in 1978, and in 1991 was leased to Epirotiki Lines, which renamed her Homericus. Her name was reverted to Atalante in 1992 and she was laid up. She was later purchased by Paradise Cruises, which refitted her again in 1993. She was scrapped at Alang, India, in 2004.

Postcard published by Edições 19 de Abril, Nº 26 (2004).

The Bica Funicular (Ascensor da Bica, sometimes known as the Elevador da Bica) is a funicular railway line in the civil parish of Misericórdia, in the municipality of Lisbon. It connects the Rua de São Paulo with Calçada do Combro/Rua do Loreto, operated by Carris. The project was conceived by Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard. The mechanical motor of the elevator was installed in 1890, after the conclusion of the public work. However, the lift only began functioning on 28 June 1892, after a couple of years of tests. On 10 January 2022, the funicular closed for  six months for conservation and restoration work.

T. s. s. "OLYMPIA", Greek Line. Official postcard

T. s. s. OLYMPIA
Greek Line

Official postcard published by the Company.

The Olympia was built in 1953 by Alexander Stephen & Sons, Glasgow (Scotland). She was designed to operate regular transatlantic voyages from Piraeus to New York, although later from 1961 she became a seasonal cruise ship. In 1970 with competition from air travel she became a full time cruise ship, however in 1974 Greek Line collapsed and ceased operations and the Olympia was laid up at Piraeus. Since then she has sailed for a variety of operators as a successful cruise ship. Since 2004 the former Olympia has operated Caribbean cruises for Imperial Majesty Cruise Lines as Regal Empress. She has ended her long and proud reign of the sea when she departed Freeport early in April 2009 sailing towards her final destination of Alang India where she will be broken up. Her voyage took over three months to complete. During her long three month voyage, she was renamed Regal Empress. She arrived at Alang India on June 18 and was beached on 24 July 2009. Then in October torches commenced cutting off the bow of the ship. The demolition was finally completed early in 2010.
