PALACIO REAL. Olite, Navarra/Nafarroa, Spain. Visitor's entrance ticket

PALACIO REAL
Olite

Visitor's entrance adult ticket Nº 17359
3,10 €

The Royal Palace or Palace of the Kings of Navarre is a castle-palace in the town of Olite/Erriberri. It was one of the seats of the Court of the Kingdom of Navarre, since the reign of Charles III "the Noble" (1361-1425) until its conquest by Castile (1512). The fortification is both castle and palace, although it was built more like a courtier building to fulfil a military function. Since the 13th-century the Castle of Olite has been called the Palace of the King of Navarre. This monument was quite damaged (except the church) in 1813 by a fire caused during the Napoleonic French Invasion to prevent its occupation by French troops. It was largely restored from 1937 in works that lasted for 30 years giving it back its original appearance.

Steamship "MALLORCA", Compañía Trasmediterránea

Vapor MALLORCA
Compañía Trasmediterránea

Painting by Guillermo González de Aledo (1923-2000).

The steamship Mallorca, the fourth and last ship with this name, was built at the Odero shipyard in Sestri Levante (Italy) in 1914, commissioned by the Isleña Marítima company. She measured 90.60 meters in length, 11.76 in width, 8.10 in depth and draft 5.8 meters. Its displacement was 3,850 tons and it had 2,204 gross register and 1,198 net register, its maximum load being 955 tons. She was equipped with a triple expansion steam engine with four boilers and 12 furnaces. Her maximum speed was about 17 knots. She arrived for the first time at the port of Palma de Mallorca on 3 December 1914, but until the summer of 1915 she was not transferred to Barcelona, where she was laundered before returning to Palma, being then assigned to the Palma-Barcelona line. After the First World War it remained in the hands of the Trasmediterránea Company. In the early 1930s she was shifted to secondary duty as a reserve ship. When the Spanish Civil War broke out, she was assigned to the navy of the rebel side as an auxiliary ship and transferred to La Spezia to arm her as an auxiliary cruiser: she was fitted with a 120 mm cannon, another anti-aircraft gun, 76mm. and two 13 mm machine guns. He was then assigned to the naval base of Palma, and participated in various actions (transporting troops and war supplies and, sometimes, as a surveillance and repression unit for ships transporting weapons and supplies for the government of the Republic). In April 1937, with two other ships, she carried out the transfer of a large contingent of troops from Palma to Cádiz. At the end of the war she took part in the conquest of Menorca by the national troops, as a troop transport. After the war she was returned to the Trasmediterránea, and she was initially moved to the port of Cádiz, where she underwent extensive repair and renovation. She returned to Palma and was assigned to the Barcelona, Valencia and Alicante routes. Between 1950 and 1953 it underwent another profound renovation in the Nuevo Vulcano workshops in Barcelona. She was decommissioned on 10 October 1973 and in 1974 she was acquired by a Valencian company, which sold it for scrapping on 11 December of the same year.

"KitKat - 1970 25 ans sans pause 1995"

Kit Kat (stylised as KitKat in various countries) is a chocolate-covered wafer bar confection created by Rowntree's of York, United Kingdom, and is now produced globally by Nestlé (which acquired Rowntree's in 1988), except in the United States, where it is made under licence by the H. B. Reese Candy Company, a division of the Hershey Company (an agreement Rowntree's first made with Hershey in 1970). Use of the name Kit Kat or Kit Cat for a type of food goes back to the 18th century, when mutton pies known as a Kit Kat were served at meetings of the political Kit-Cat Club in London owned by pastry chef Christopher Cat. The origins of what is now known as the Kit Kat brand go back to 1911, when Rowntree's, a confectionery company based in York, trademarked the terms Kit Cat and Kit Kat. Rowntree's Chocolate Crisp was renamed Kit Kat Chocolate Crisp in 1937.

RMS "Olympic" (collectable card)

RMS "Olympic" drawn by Edgar Pullin. Collectible card by Amalgamated Tobacco Corporation (South Africa) Ltd., Johannesburg, 'Famous British Ships', series Nº 1, 24.
[RMS "Olympic" was an ocean liner built by Harland and Wolff, in Belfast (North Ireland), for the White Star Line, which also included Titanic and Britannic. Unlike her sisters, Olympic served a long and illustrious career (1911 to 1935). For a short time she was the largest ocean liner in the world. Was launched 20 October 1910, her maiden voyage commenced on 14 June 1911. "Olympic"'s first major mishap occurred on 20 September 1911, when she collided with a British warship, HMS "Hawke" off the Isle of Wight. Although the incident resulted in the flooding of two of her compartments and a twisted propeller shaft, "Olympic" was able to return to Southampton under her own power. Afer other incidents, during the war "Olympic" is reported to have carried up to 201,000 troops and other personnel, burning 347,000 tons of coal and travelling about 184,000 miles. Her impressive World War I service earned her the nickname "Old Reliable". In August 1919 Olympic returned to Belfast for restoration to civilian service. At the turn of 1927-28, Olympic was converted to carry tourist third cabin passengers as well as first, second and third class. Tourist third cabin was an attempt to attract travellers who desired comfort without the accompanying high ticket price. New public rooms were constructed for this class, although tourist third cabin and second class would merge to become 'tourist' by late 1931. "Olympic" was withdrawn from service in 1935 and sold to be partially demolished at Jarrow, providing work for the region. In 1937, Olympic was towed to Inverkeithing to T.W. Ward's yard for final demolition.]

CAEN (France). Tramway en 1920. L'une des voitures construites par Preston. Photo: GEC Traction Ltd.
